Since early October 2024, the firmware of the R_volution 8K players offers new settings called AIPQ (Artificial Intelligence Picture Quality) and AISR (Artificial Intelligence Super Resolution) as well as a sharpening filter and a black level adjustment for Dolby Vision. The PlayerMini only offers these last two options.
To access these settings, go to Setup > Video > Picture Enhancement.
Sharpness
This setting allows you to enable or disable the sharpness filter. Image purists will undoubtedly prefer to disable this option. For others, this treatment may be interesting.
AIPQ
This setting improves image quality by using artificial intelligence that works by modulating a certain number of parameters in real time, in particular on nuances, colors and local contrast in order to reinforce the three-dimensionality of the image and enrich the colors. This image processing can be disabled or set to several levels, namely: low, medium, or high. Image purists will also prefer to disable this image processing.
An option allows you to display information on the image processing in progress in real time. In particular, it allows you to see that the image processing is very variable depending on the shots of a video being played.
AISR
This setting improves the upscaling of a 1080i or 1080p video to 4K Ultra HD or 8K Ultra HD resolution. Lower resolution videos do not benefit from this image processing. In particular, it allows you to upscale a video image from a Blu-ray ISO, an M2TS or an MKV to 1080p resolution to display it with very high quality on a 4K or 8K television or video projector. This image processing works thanks to artificial intelligence that reconstructs the image in order to obtain more pixels and not a simple luminance modulation and an oversampling of the subpixels (4:2:0 chrominance layers) as is often the case with traditional upscaling systems. The result is an impressive scaling that sometimes comes close to the native 4K version of the works broadcast. This allows you to take full advantage of the resolution of your 4K or 8K TV or projector when playing video files in 1080p resolution.
Warning! AISR may be inactive depending on the mode chosen for Auto-Resolution option. In order to ise AISR, Auto-Resolution has to be set as OFF (Setup > Video).
Remove green information on the screen
To remove the information shown in green on the screen, choose NO in the "AISR - Show information" and/or AISR - Show information" option depending on the information you do not want to display.
